Accidental Love by Sterry Cartoons
Valentines day is not my favourite day of the year, but it is a nice marker on the way to pancake day and Easter (cue unexplained tonnes of chocolate).
Available on Cards and all sorts of things here.

Sterry Cartoons began with a simple interest in illustration and comedy. The comic has received a great deal of interest online, partially due to the viral success of “Musical Compliments” (a cartoon featuring a joke about naturals and sharps), which has been shared by over 20,000 people worldwide.
Inspire us to create more amusing cartoons and help share the smiles (and groans) by supporting us with your thumbs on Facebook / Google+ / Twitter / Tumblr.
Here are just a few of the products I’ve made so far. They’d probably make great gifts for your musician friends and music teachers, or (if you’re anything like me) you might just want to treat yourself because it makes you giggle. There are all sorts of products to choose from on my Zazzle and Redbubble shops.

Sharks may have become my favourite thing to draw.
They have such a bad reputation, but all they really want to do is eat fish and turtles and get on in life. My remedy to this is to draw them doing silly things because – as we learnt from Defense Against the Dark Arts in Harry Potter – if you turn something that scares you (Boggart or Shark) in to something that makes you laugh, somehow it stops being scary.
You may see more shark comics appearing soon, because I love drawing them doing ridiculous things.

Silly misunderstanding of the week:
“Yesterday I was asked to watch the chickens, so I wandered outside. Apparently the one I was meant to watch was already in the oven.”
We have a few broody hens and an escape artist cockerel, so it didn’t seem like a particularly strange request at the time. They probably wouldn’t escape so much if we clipped their wings but that generally only happens shortly after they’ve escaped, eaten all of the seedlings and terrorised the cats.
The chicken in the oven came out with a nice tan! 😛

Earlier today, I found out that one of my cartoons has been shared on facebook over 1000 times, and I’m amused at the thought of that many people seeing it and laughing/groaning simultaneously (I am easily amused), so I’ve decided to make some more.
Today I give you… an animated french music cartoon gif:
Sterry Cartoons has a facebook page now too (as well as nice new shop on zazzle), so if you’d like to see what I create next, feel free to hit the like button and stalk the creativity! 😛

My ambition, above anything else is to make a living from things that make people smile. It’s why I love music, cartoons, comedy – other people being happy and sharing just a single little moment brings me more happiness than anything else and if I can’t create and share experiences and laughter with other people then I don’t really know what my life is for.
I expect lots of people feel like this but just don’t know how to get to the point where they’re spending the majority of the time doing the thing they love and… that’s ok! I have no idea what I’m doing, but while I’m still in education I’m going to spend my time learning as much as I can about the subjects I love, taking action in testing new ideas, creating new products, promoting myself and aiming high. I hope that if you have similar dreams you can do the same. 🙂
Here are a few of my favourite t-shirt designs so far – you might have seen them before, but I hope they give you a giggle!

This is the very first cartoon I ever created and now you can buy it on all sorts of things in my Zazzle store!
As far as I can remember, the idea for this cartoon was sparked by a chat with a lovely friend (singer and teacher Sarah Barnett). We were wondering whether it would be possible to make smiley faces out of music notes. I got a little bit obsessed and eventually came up with these.
The music puns followed on naturally and made a few friends smile, so they stayed. 🙂

LIVE JAZZ tonight at the Mill Club, Kingsbridge from ‘The John Sterry Trio’ (aka. The Sterrys).
~
Tonight I’m playing with The Sterrys Jazz Trio to raise money for The Poppy Appeal! I’ve played there once before and thoroughly enjoyed it, so I’m hoping that this time will be the same.
There is now a Sterry Cartoons Group over on facebook.
So feel free to hang out over there and share in the friendly banter!
I’ll post the occasional cartoon and we can all have a bit of a laugh.
Live Music
There are a few gigs coming up in December, where I’ll be performing as guest jazz flautist with Hamer & Isaacs gypsy swing band. They’re a brilliant group of musicians playing lively Django-style jazz and really good fun to watch, so if you get a chance to see them – Don’t miss it!
The dates I’ll be joining Hamer & Isaacs are:
8th December – East Portlemouth Village Hall, 8pm
18th December – White Horse Inn, Launceston, 8pm
They’re playing a lot of dates in Devon and Cornwall in December, so it’s well worth having a look on their shows page to see if they’re playing anywhere near you.
Also remade the header photo for the website (below). What do you think?
Just a quick post today – Hope you’re all well!
