I had a little bit of spare time today and decided to create this for the #DevonHour community. It was a good chance to play with some of the textures in Inkscape and create something colourful and fun.

Summertime: The world-jazz-funk-fusion version!

Smiling Music Face Hoddie - Music gifts by Hannah Sterry
Music makes me happy!

It’s scary posting music in a public space, but this afternoon I decided to record a world-jazz-funk-fusion version of Summertime by George Gershwin and thought it’d be nice to share.

The aim of this really was just to create something that I was happy with, within a deadline of a few hours and to build confidence.

I’ve been quite self conscious about singing solo since secondary school – I know so many talented singers and if I try to compare myself to them then I lose half of my confidence. I tend to deal with the doubt by acknowledging that everybody’s voice is completely unique and that I might as well do my best, but sometimes the confidence still goes.

It’s even more bizarre when you consider that I’d be quite happy to stand in front of thousands or millions of people playing the flute.

The clarinet’s still a work in progress in terms of learning, but I stuck it in there just for fun!

I’m not a royalist:
I’ll choose to count your worth

Not a status claimed at birth.

My Uterus

Smiley face on my finger.

My uterus is selfish.

Can’t stop it, though I try.

It’s never about uter-US,

It’s always uter-I.

Catouflage in action!
Cat camouflage photo by Hannah Sterry.

This is a photo of my cat, Mouse, from back when she was only a year or two old. True to her name, she’s small and timid, but she’s really affectionate and reliably appears at the sound of a cat food tin being opened!

Mouse was the only grey kitten in a litter of mostly black kittens and her mum didn’t seem to like her very much (her mum used to remove Mouse from the litter and dump her in the middle of the floor somewhere else), so we ended up giving her cat milk and weaning her on to food a bit early. She’ll usually come over if you click your fingers because that’s what I used to do just before I gave her kitten biscuits.

Hope the picture made you smile and feel free to link me to pictures/blog posts of your cats doing funny, cute and amusing things in the comments! I might link to some of my favourites in next week’s #caturday blog. 🙂

The Festival by Jazz Greenhill

The sketch above was drawn by a very smiley, happy, Jazz Greenhill when I bumped in to her one evening at a gig in Kingsbridge. You can usually find her sketching something (which explains why her illustrations are so good!) and she’s just released her first full-length comic “The Festival”, which you can read about and buy here:

She’s a wonderful person and a talented illustrator and having seen her work so far, I’m sure she’ll create some brilliant things in the future so she’s definitely worth a follow!

Musical Compliments

Musical Compliments - A music cartoon by Hannah Sterry (Sterry Cartoons). Musical Compliments A silly musical cartoon, showing two music notes chatting. The conversation reads: “Liking the natural look!” “Thanks! You’re looking pretty sharp yourself!” It’s just a bit of musical fun. Would make an ideal gift for anyone musical; music students, teachers and lovers of amusing puns! Designed by Hannah Sterry. This is the very first cartoon I ever created and now you can buy it on all sorts of things in my Zazzle store!

As far as I can remember, the idea for this cartoon was sparked by a chat with a lovely friend (singer and teacher Sarah Barnett). We were wondering whether it would be possible to make smiley faces out of music notes. I got a little bit obsessed and eventually came up with these.

The music puns followed on naturally and made a few friends smile, so they stayed. 🙂

Musical Compliments Gifts

Here are just a few of the products I’ve made so far. They’d probably make great gifts for your musician friends and music teachers, or (if you’re anything like me) you might just want to treat yourself because it makes you giggle. There are all sorts of products to choose from (not just these ones), so if you want to see the whole range have a look over here (Zazzle Shop).
